The wrestling world was excited as AEW revealed a crucial match for its Forbidden Door pay-per-view on the June 23rd episode of AEW Rampage’‹, involving Adam Cole.

The Stage is Set

The episode, taped right after Wednesday’s live AEW Dynamite at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois, set the stage for an exciting event.

Adam Cole, the charismatic wrestler known for his engaging promos, found himself embroiled in a surprise match. The unexpected turn of events came during a promo where Cole voiced his concerns about having to team up with the AEW World Champion MJF in the upcoming Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament’‹.

Adam Cole at Forbidden Door 2: The Unexpected Match Announcement

MJF, another prominent figure in the AEW universe, interrupted Cole’s promo. Urging AEW CEO Tony Khan to book a match between Cole and NJPW star Tom Lawlor, MJF set the wheels in motion for an encounter that fans didn’t see coming.

Lawlor, a former MMA fighter, and his NJPW ally, Royce Isaacs, made a dramatic appearance from the crowd and attacked Cole, effectively setting up the match for the Forbidden Door event’‹.

Tom Lawlor’s AEW Debut

Lawlor’s sudden appearance on Rampage will mark his first time on AEW programming. The former NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion last wrestled for NJPW at the Collision event in Philadelphia on April 16.

His tag team trio match against Bad Dude Tito, Shane Haste, and Zack Sabre Jr. showcased his skills. Before that, Lawlor had a widely praised match against Sabre Jr. for the NJPW World Television Title at Capital Collision’‹.

This episode of the AEW Rampage show will be broadcast on Friday, June 23rd ahead of the Forbidden Door 2 event on Sunday, June 25th.
