A major star from New Japan Pro Wrestling has said that he wants to have a match with CM Punk in All Elite Wrestling.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Hiroshi Tanahashi revealed that he wants to face the former WWE Superstar in the United States.

‘I wrestled against Bryan [Danielson] once in my youth, and now I want to fight him again as a superstar,’ Tanahashi revealed during the interview.

‘CM Punk is famous all over the world, so I would like to wrestle him in a situation that will be big news across the world” the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion added.

A potential match between Punk and Tanahashi could be huge, and it would make sense to have it on PPV for AEW at some point.

Whilst the match could also take place in an NJPW ring, Punk does not currently have a deal in place to appear in New Japan.

Other NJPW names have said that they want to face Punk in the past, including former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay.

If you’re Tony Khan, there’s no way you’d allow such a potentially massive bout to take place outside of the United States or so New Japan.
