CM Punk wants to face big name after his AEW return.
The former AEW Champion’s return to the promotion is all but confirmed. The company is already mapping out his return, and Chris Jericho is slated to be his first feud back.
Though recent reports have been hinting that Punk wants to face another big name first. It was said that the Straight Edge Star has been pushing for a huge match early in his return and now the name of his desired opponent has been revealed.
CM Punk wants Joe
Fightful Select recently reiterated that CM Punk will be leading the new AEW brand dubbed Collision. While a program with Jericho has been pitched for him, the former champion has also shown interest in working with Samoa Joe:
“Sources close to Punk have indicated that he’s become increasingly interested in working with Samoa Joe. Joe has not wrestled on All Elite Wrestling TV since AEW Revolution, when he dropped the TNT Title to Wardlow. However, he’s been a regular on ROH TV as their World Television Champion.”
Samoa Joe and Punk have not shared the ring since August 2005. The two were part of a four way Elimination match in ROH back then. The site couldn’t confirm if this is supposed to be a one-off match or an extended rivalry:
“We can’t confirm whether the pitch/suggestion was for a one-off match or an extended program. Also, we have not confirmation on whether or not the match is actually happening, as AEW sources won’t discuss anything related to Collision in general, much less the matches planned.”
