Former AEW Champion Jon Moxley will be making his return to AEW television next week. Moxley lost the title to Kenny Omega on the ‘Winter Is Coming’ episode of Dynamite earlier this month. Moxley has not been back on television since the loss, however he will be appearing on Night 1 of the New Year’s Smash on TNT December 30th.
Kenny Omega winning the match led to the cross-promotional angle between AEW and IMPACT Wrestling. Omega’s long-time friend/family member Don Callis would help Omega win the AEW Championship; since then Callis has had the ‘Best Bout Machine’ appear on IMPACT every Tuesday night.
It is not confirmed exactly what Jon Moxley will be doing when he returns next week. The main event of Dynamite on 30/12 will see Kenny Omega defend his AEW Championship against Rey Fenix. There’s a chance we will see Moxley interfere in the main event or at least make an appearance confronting Omega and Callis.
Although it was already pretty certain, Moxley appearing on Dynamite next week eliminates the chance of a Wrestle Kingdom appearance on January 4th/5th. There had been unsubstantiated rumors that Moxley was going to appear; however anyone travelling to Japan needs to self-isolate for at least 2 weeks. Thus ruling out a potential appearance from the New Japan IWGP United States Champion.
