Malakai Black: New AEW star’s first match announced for Dynamite

Malakai Black vs Cody Rhodes will be taking place in two weeks at the AEW Dynamite: Homecoming event in Jacksonville, Florida.

Black made his debut for All Elite Wrestling just a few short weeks ago, attacking both Cody Rhodes and his coach Arn Anderson on Dynamite.

This will be Malakai Black/Tommy Ends’ first match since he left WWE just over a month ago. There was a clerical error with Black’s WWE contract, meaning that he only had a one-month non-compete clause as opposed to the usual 90 days for main roster talent.

August 4 will be the first match that Malakai Black has had on television since the October 12 2020 episode of Monday Night RAW. Malakai Black, then known as Aleister Black, faced Kevin Owens in a no disqualification match as part of the WWE ThunderDome era.

Malakai is being seen by AEW as one of the potential main event stars going forward, with Jim Ross recently telling the Dutch wrestler that he wants him to be on top of the card and not just ‘another guy’ in the promotion.

With Black having not wrestled in almost a year, he may have some ring rust when AEW heads back to Jacksonville on August 4. It’s arguable that fellow former WWE and NXT Champion Andrade El Idolo has suffered somewhat from having such a long layoff between leaving WWE and joining All Elite.

AEW Dynamite is available to watch every Wednesday on TNT Network or FITE TV for fans outside of the United States.
