Tony Khan is keeping things close to his vest when it comes to CM Punk.
The former AEW champion has been away from the company since All Out last year. Punk had a backstage altercation with The Elite that led to the suspension of both parties. While The Elite eventually returned to the company, the Straight Edge Star has been kept off TV as he was recovering from a foot injury.
Things have changed in recent months, however as Punk’s return has been plotted. It’s believed that the former WWE star will be making his return during the debut episode of AEW’s new weekly show Collision on June 17.
Tony Khan will not comment
CM Punk’s return seems all but officially confirmed at this point but Tony Khan is not giving any hints about it still. He was asked about it during a recent interview with Maggie and Perloff (H/t Fightful) and Khan said that he cannot comment on the matter:
‘I can’t comment on that, but I do think it’s very exciting running a lot of big events. Chicago has been one of the best cities for AEW for a long time and I’m very excited to be back there. It’s a home city to me, personally, growing up in Illinois and spending most of my life there until my dad got involved in the NFL. It’ll be great to be back in Chicago for AEW.’
Tony Khan was also asked if he learned anything from the brawl out incident. He repeated his previous remarks before turning the conversation towards the growth of AEW:
‘I can’t really comment. I haven’t talked about that particular situation since it happened, specifically. In the time since, AEW has continued to hit new heights and grow and I have a lot of respect for all the people you just said as professional wrestlers and we have a great company going right now. With a big announcement coming next week, we’ve been able to sustain and continue to develop as a wrestling company.’
