Backstage news on Kenny Omega’s impending AEW return

Last updated

It’s no secret that Kenny Omega is getting ready to make his grand AEW return. He has been rumored ever since AEW unveiled the brackets for the Trios Tag Team Title tournament. The Young Bucks have been looking for a partner for this tournament and they have all but confirmed Omega’s comeback with recent teases.

Fightful Select has confirmed that the former AEW champion will indeed be returning to AEW on Dynamite tonight. He has been side-lined since last November. Omega had been dealing with multiple issues including a shoulder injury, a sports hernia, vertigo brought on by an Okada dropkick, and a leg/knee injury.

The report suggests that the company has been planning his comeback for a while. They apparently changed plans for an FTR vs Young Bucks match back in July because of Kenny Omega’s impending return. Tony Khan had also previously said that he was more likely to establish the trios title when The Cleaner was ready to make his comeback.

Kenny Omega did return to the road with AEW for a brief period before. He chose to remove himself once again, however, as he felt that being on road was affecting his recovery. The promotion originally hoped that Omega will be back by Forbidden Door but it obviously didn’t turn out to be the case.
