How plans for Jon Moxley were affected due to CM Punk altercation

AEW had to make a lot of changes to their original plans for Dynamite due to the infamous CM Punk altercation. The locker room fight that occurred after the All Out PPV led to a number of key stars being suspended. So the show which was written around these names had to be revised. One such person who wasn’t part of the original plans for the show but ended up making an appearance was Jon Moxley.

Dave Meltzer noted on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio (H/t ringsidenews) that the former AEW champion was going to take some time off from the company. He had an entire non-title storyline planned for him when he came back:

‘Moxley had an entire storyline that had nothing to do with the championship or anything like that. He was gonna be off. He even mentioned on TV that he was going on a vacation.

The angle obviously had to be thrown out because CM Punk was stripped of the AEW title and the company needed participants for the announced tournament:

“The storyline had to be thrown out, because him and Chris Jericho, who was also not booked on the show this week, they were both called and told ’˜the show that we had and the stars that we had ’” we had 4 main stars who are not on the show this week and we need you back.’ There was a team meeting before the show, and unity and everything like that.’
