Things haven’t been going well for Tony Khan and AEW lately. Reports of many stars being unhappy have been coming out regularly. Several backstage dramas that have come to the public’s knowledge have also affected the public perception of the promotion negatively.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer claimed that there has been ‘a ton of backstage drama’ involving many top stars which has gotten worse in recent weeks. He noted that Colt Cabana not being booked for shows was the catalyst of it all:
“The big thing that started all this is that Colt Cabana is not in the Dark Order with no angle and stopped being brought to television. He was going to be cut but Khan signed him for ROH. This is really the catalyst of everything although different people have different stories as to why it happened, including Page and Punk.”
The news about the heat between Hangman Page and CM Punk has made a lot of headlines recently. Meltzer noted that even if this real-life feud didn’t come to light, it would have been something else because a number of people are close to their breaking point in AEW:
“But even if that didn’t happen, it was probably going to happen for something else just given the nature of the different personalities involved. It feels like a number of people are close to their breaking point if things don’t get settled.”
