CM Punk’s promo on Dynamite this week has left fans scratching their head. Reports have come out saying that Punk calling out Hangman Page was an unexpected move and even Page himself wasn’t aware of it. Still there are many fans who are adamant that the whole thing is a work and a new report supports this belief.
On a PWTorch.com VIP audio show (H/t Wrestlingnews.co), Wade Keller reported that people in AEW think it’s not beyond Tony Khan to do another work-shoot type thing after MJF. He then revealed that Khan actually had a lengthy meeting with the AEW champion before Dynamite:
“I can report that Tony Khan went into Punk’s locker room and spent a decent amount of time with him one on one [Wednesday] afternoon. I can also report that Punk did not seem agitated or distracted or not his usual self-right before Dynamite started.”
Keller added that backstage it didn’t feel like CM Punk was agitated before his promo or he had something else in mind. The wrestling star was going through his normal motions before the event:
“It didn’t seem like anything was on his mind or that it was a stressful day or anything like that. He was totally going through the normal motions. So there’s just a couple contextual things there.”
This doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is good in AEW. It’s been reported elsewhere that several top stars have reached their ‘breaking point’ behind the scenes.
