UFC Lightweight Superstar Conor McGregor recently appeared on the Weighing In podcast. The Irish fighter would discuss a number of topics during the show, including the Lightweight Title and his upcoming fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.
McGregor has spoken in the past of wanting to fight Poirier as he is a southpaw. The speculation for the potential McGregor vs Manny Pacquiao fight is still running wild and Conor McGregor confirmed again during this interview that the southpaw stance of Poirier was a factor in arranging this fight.
“That is certainly how the southpaw bout came about” Conor McGregor would state during the interview. “That and also he’s (Dustin Poirier) number one in the rankings, I believe? He’s right at the top of the division. So you know it makes sense to go back [to fight a southpaw]. But I certainly thought, prepare for a good southpaw and Manny [Pacquiao] is in the wings waiting.”

“I know those talks are intensifying” McGregor continued, saying that we may be close to a Conor vs Manny showdown. “And you know I believe sometime this year? Maybe late this year, that the bout will take place. It’ll be under discussions with the UFC, you know, where we go with this, what’s next. I do not want to sit around, I want to continue competition. I’m at my best.”
