WBC Lightweight Champion Devin Haney was in attendance to see Ryan Garcia defeat Luke Campbell by TKO last night. The fight went into the seventh round and saw Garcia fight back from being knocked down early in the second round.
Garcia is now Devin Haney’s mandatory opponent for the title, and Fight Hub TV spoke to Haney just seconds after the bout to get his thoughts.
Devin Haney on Ryan Garcia
“It was a good fight, he [Garcia] went in there and he got the win” Haney would begin. “Of course he got knocked down and you know he showed some flaws but he also showed that he had heart and got the win.”
When asked by Fight Hub if he wanted to get in the ring with Garcia in 2021 Haney made it unequivocally clear that he wants the fight. “It’s a fight that I would love to make” Devin Haney stated. “He’s my mandatory right now you know? We’re gonna take the things we got to do to make the fight happen and [for me] to fight my mandatory. We got to see what happens.”
Haney would finish by beginning to talk about the flaws he saw in Garcia’s game. “I mean, truthfully I see a lot of flaws you know? Ryan is a good fighter and everything but uh….” Devin would then be moved away by someone in his entourage.
