AEW has announced that New Japan Pro Wrestling legend Yuji Nagata will be appearing on Dynamite on May 12th. Nagata will be challenging Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship.

Jon Moxley had already offered Nagata a shot at the title earlier this month. Moxley said that Yuji Nagata was one of the ‘big game’ talents that he respects and that he wants to hunt.

This is not the first time that a New Japan contracted talent has appeared in AEW this year. KENTA of course appeared back in February; attacking Jon Moxley ahead of their own IWGP US title match on NJPW Strong.

This all appears to be part of the ongoing ‘Forbidden Door’ storyline that has been changing the landscape of professional wrestling. AEW, IMPACT, AAA, NWA and New Japan have all been working together in some form or fashion over the past year.

It remains to be seen if any more NJPW talents will be appearing in AEW in time. When the travel restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we may see the likes of Kenny Omega even make his way over to NJPW.

Omega of course has his ongoing ‘belt collector’ gimmick that saw him win at IMPACT Wrestling’s Rebellion PPV event this past Sunday and earn both the IMPACT and TNA World Heavyweight Championships from Rich Swann.

Whether Jon Moxley will be heading back to NJPW at some point in the next year also remains to be seen. Moxley did have a special separate deal with New Japan; so it is likely he can still compete in Japan if he wanted to.
