WWE NXT ‘Enforcer’ Samoa Joe recently spoke to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. Joe recently made his ‘return’ to the company, after being released from his contract back in April due to ‘budget cuts.’
It was confirmed during the interview that Samoa Joe is not yet cleared to wrestle by WWE, due to ongoing concussion issues suffered from a WWE commercial shoot in 2020.
‘Guys on the roster, they’ve told me they want this matchup, too,’ Joe said of potential matches he has previously teased on NXT, including against Pete Dunne, Karrion Kross and Johnny Gargano.
Will Samoa Joe wrestle in NXT?
‘I couldn’t really pay heed to that when I was on RAW,” Joe added. “Those matchups weren’t going to happen then. But now I’m here. Let’s see if they’re still as loud.’
Samoa Joe is still actively trying to get himself cleared by WWE to compete on the NXT brand, with a litany of opponents that fans want to see the former United States Champion in the ring with.
As of writing, Joe will be working as the Enforcer for NXT GM William Regal going forward, with no current indication on when/if WWE will be clearing the veteran for a return to in-ring action.
Joe was initially offered the role of NXT General Manager by William Regal on television, although Joe turned this down to work alongside the current GM to ‘restore order’ to the black and gold brand.
