WWE are reportedly looking at adding bigger names to their Cruiserweight division on the NXT programme. This week’s episode of the show saw Kyle O’Reilly take on KUSHIDA, and apparently this won’t be the last time a ‘bigger’ name heads to the 205 division.
According to a new report from Fightful Select, WWE have been extremely high on KUSHIDA ever since he signed with the company. It was also revealed that the NXT roster are big proponents of the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Cruiserweight division to the moon
The NXT show is likely to “integrate more storyline, some bigger names, and angles into the Cruiserweight division, especially this Summer.”
It’s not confirmed who will be part of the re-birth of the 205 weight division, but it is a long time coming from WWE. The Cruiserweight Classic tournament was a major hit originally, but 205 Live and the division in general has fallen massively over the past few years.
The actual NXT programme is apparently going to be getting far more Cruiserweight competition going forward, with an emphasis on more high-flying action. Yes, 205 Live is still going as a programme, but it is getting less and less focus as the months go on and many believe it will be on the chopping block soon enough.
Having KUSHIDA as the nucleus of the division is certainly a good way to start this reinvigoration, with the Juniors division great having a huge amount of experience and some name value over the likes of Tony Nese, Asher Hale and Grayson Waller.
