Free Agent rumored to start with AEW appearing on IMPACT

Former WWE Superstar and soon to be free agent Buddy Murphy is reportedly making his way to IMPACT Wrestling this Thursday night.

The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion has apparently been one of the names that All Elite are keeping their eye on, so it is not confirmed if he has signed with IMPACT exclusively or if this is a one-off or non-contracted appearance.

Impact’s EVP Scott D’Amore recently appeared on Jade Chung’s Twitch stream, and he may have spoiled the free agent making his way to the company by saying “tune in this Thursday when Buddy Murphy premieres for Impact Wrestling.”

Technically, Murphy is still under his 90-day non-compete clause with WWE, so he probably won’t be appearing on camera on this week’s IMPACT, but it is likely he will be mentioned.

Free Agent heading to IMPACT?

Now known as Buddy Matthews, the former WWE Superstar will officially be able to join another company as of August 31st, so AEW, IMPACT, NWA, New Japan and more will all be on the table on that date.

AEW are apparently still very interested in signing Buddy, due to his abilities and ties to Malakai Black, who also recently left WWE and signed with AEW.

With Murphy finishing his WWE contract officially at the end of August, he will be available to be part of AEW’s All Out PPV event, should the company choose to use him on the show.

Here is what AEW have in store for this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which airs tonight on TNT Network in the United States and on FITE TV in Europe and the United Kingdom:

  • CM Punk makes his first appearance on AEW Dynamite.
  • ‘Varsity Blonds’ Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison vs. ‘The Lucha Brothers’ Penta El Zero Mideo and Rey Fenix in an AEW Tag Title Eliminator tournament match.
  • Jamie Hayter vs. Red Velvet.
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Hardy.
  • Malakai Black vs. Brock Anderson.
