Welcome to The Wrest Is History! In this new column we look at back a significant event from this day in Pro Wrestling history. The 20th February 1989 was the day of NWA’s Chi-Town Rumble in UIC Pavilion, Chicago, Illinois. The main event featured quite possible the greatest pro wrestling match of all time – Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat.

The match was contested for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, seeing the Champion Ric Flair defend against beloved babyface Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat. This was the first match in their legendary trilogy, the other two bouts came at “Clash of the Champions VI: Ragin’ Cajun” (New Orleans, April 2, 1989) and “WrestleWar: Music City Showdown” (Nashville, May 7, 1989).
