Former UFC fighter Ben Askren recently appeared on the Chris Van Vliet podcast. The man who will be fighting Jake Paul in April discussed a number of topics during the interview, including his UFC 239 fight against Jorge Masvidal.
The UFC 239 fight was iconic for all the wrong reasons, if you’re Ben Askren. Jorge Masvidal knocked out Askren with a flying knee just seconds into the fight; as Askren shot for an early takedown.
Speaking to Van Vliet, Askren talked about the ‘first memory’ he had after the devastating knockout. ‘Actually, the first memory was, I remember Luke Rockhold was right in front of me” Askren stated.
“And I thought, that was the first thing, like ’˜F*ck I’m in the hospital, Luke Rockhold’s right there,’’ Askren continued.
Dana White on Ben Askren
The knockout ranks among some of the best in UFC history. Askren’s career now, rightly or wrongly, is unfortunately marked by a single moment. This, amongst other reasons, are why some are concerned that Ben Askren will lose when he takes on Jake Paul on April 17.
Some however, are not concerned at Askren’s chances when he takes to the ring in April. ‘Let’s be honest: Jake Paul is not a f*cking boxer ’“ this guy’s a f*cking YouTube kid.’ This was said by UFC President Dana White recently on the ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson’ podcast.
‘Let me tell you about this kid” White continued, talking about Ben Askren. “So the kid he’s going to fight is a wrestler; a real good wrestler, a decorated wrestler, but he’s actually fought real guys. He’s been a world champion in other organizations.’
