It was recently confirmed that Alex Volkanovski would no longer be competing at UFC 260. The Featherweight Champion was due to defend his belt against Brian Ortega in the co-main event of the show.

Volkanovski was removed from the event due to a positive COVID-19 test. His planned opponent Brian Ortega took to Twitter to wish the Champion well in his recovery.

“So you guys all heard, I don’t need to tell you anymore” Brian Ortega said via a video on Twitter. “Volkanovski tested positive for COVID.”

“He’s (Volkanovski) done everything right” Ortega continued. “I know you would’ve taken the fight no matter what, even with COVID. That’s the type of human you are. I respect that. I hope you get better, I hope you heal up fast. We’ll postpone it and we’ll just reschedule it for when we have to.”

Volkanovski also reacted to the news online earlier today. ‘So devastated to share that I’ve tested positive for Covid and my fight is off and will be rescheduled’ Alex Volkanovski began.

‘I tested negative leaving Australia, negative before entering the UFC bubble but my latest test was positive ‘Volkanovski continued. ‘We have worked so hard getting ready for this fight and I’m absolutely gutted this has happened. We followed every policy and process to remain COVID free, but it wasn’t meant to be this time.’

Hopefully the UFC will be able to re-schedule the fight for later in the year. Our well wishes go out to Alex Volkanovski and his family at this time.
