The expected mega-fight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou still seems way off. Jones himself recently said that he spoke to the UFC’s lawyer and ‘turned down’ 8-10 million dollars for the fight.
‘I had a brief phone meeting with UFC’˜s lawyer Hunter a few days ago’ Jon Jones stated on Twitter. ‘As of right now I expressed to him that anywhere around eight to $10 million would be way too low for a fight of this magnitude.’
‘That’s all that has been discussed so far’ Jones added. Now Jon Jones’ coach Mike Winkeljohn thinks that the payday for Jones could be around FIVE TIMES that number.
‘Gosh, I look at the big fights,’ Winkeljohn began, recently speaking to Submission Radio. ‘I think this fight can be easily as [big as] some of the big Mayweather fights out there. What did Floyd Mayweather make? A hundred million? I don’t know. You know, that type of thing.”
Jon Jones Worth $50 Million?
“[Mayweather] was kind of his own promoter” Winkeljohn continued. “So, Jon’s gotta share that with the UFC as far as on pay-per-view buys.”
“But I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a $50 million fight” Jones’ coach added. “And the UFC still makes bank, and is able to pay off a lot of the debt they have and go forward. I think the UFC needs a superstar like Jon Jones.”
“I think Conor [McGregor] was the guy for a while, and he’s fallen off” Winkeljohn concluded. “But those big names is what makes the UFC money, ultimately.’
