UFC Lightweight fighter Justin Gaethje was originally expected to face Michael Chandler in his next fight. The former Interim Lightweight Champion lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov last year and has not been back in the octagon since.

Reports indicated that Gaethje was in fact going to be the 1-0 (in the UFC) Chandler’s next bout. These plans appear to have changed as Michael Chandler will now be challenging for the vacant Lightweight Championship at UFC 262 against Charles Oliveira.

Justin Gaethje recently spoke to Full Reptile on the situation and how the Lightweight division stands right now. ‘If I get disrespected, it’s gonna be hurtful’ Gaethje stated. ‘Because I really bought into what [Dana] talks about. So it’ll hurt, because I feel like a company man from day one.’

Dana White on Justin Gaethje

Dana White has responded to the comments made by Gaethje. Speaking at the UFC 260 pre-fight press conference; Dana White said that Justin Gaethje “couldn’t be in a better position.”

‘He fits very well in all this,’ White said regarding Gaethje and the lightweight title scene. ‘After this plays out, he’s probably next in line. It depends on what happens with Dustin and Conor.’

‘You know how that is” Dana White continued. “Timing is everything when these fights happen, how much damage did the guy who won take and what kind of personal sh*t does he have going on. You know all that stuff factors into when the next fight would be, but Justin Gaethje couldn’t be in a better position.’
