Dustin Poirier Talks Move To 170 To Fight Nate Diaz

Last updated

UFC Lightweight fighter Dustin Poirier recently discussed a potential move to Welterweight to fight Nate Diaz. Speaking on the Joe Rogan experience, the man who beat Conor McGregor in January said that he wants to face Nate Diaz in the heavier division.

“Before I’m done fighting, I’ll go up to 170” Poirier said to Rogan. “Yeah, I’ll go up to 170 to fight Nate. Me and him were supposed to fight at Madison Square Garden. I kind of was the fall guy’”He gets to point and say I pulled out of the fight and I did. I went to get stem cells done on my hip.”

‘But I was going to fight” Dustin Poirier continued. “I was going to go through a camp and fight him if they wouldn’t have started offering me other replacement opponents. Nate was playing games with the UFC, UFC started offering me opponents and I said, ’˜Look guys, if this is happening, I’m just going to have my hip taken care of.’ He’s a guy I’ve always wanted to fight.’

It has not been confirmed how the Lightweight division will be be handled by UFC going forward. UFC President Dana White has stated that he wants to still try and get Khabib out of retirement to defend his belt. Dustin Poirier is being tipped as one of the men to participate in a fight for the belt if one should go ahead in the next few months.
