UFC fighter Jessica Penne was expected to be returning to the octagon on March 27th to take on Hannah Goldy. Penne was previously serving a 4 year ban issued by USADA.

This 4 year ban was reduced to a 20-month layoff; reportedly due to Jessica Penne’s ’˜discipline.’ USADA originally issued the ban due to a ‘positive at trace levels for two metabolites of stanozolol, 16β-hydroxystanozolol and 3’²-hydroxystanozolol.’

Jessica Penne did however appear at UFC Fight Night and defeated Lupita Godinez in a hard fought split decision victory. Following the fight, Penne made some comments during the post fight press conference about her experience whilst being suspended.

Jessica Penne on Suspension

‘Yeah, I felt that I may never fight again, and that was heartbreaking and painful,’ Penne said to reporters following UFC on ESPN 22. ‘The hardest thing of being away was it not being my choice. It was really having to accept and relinquish control of the situation and really accept that I may never get to compete again.”

‘I may never get to corner someone again” Jessica Penne continued. “I may never be able to be a part of the sport again, and that was really heartbreaking. Because I love this sport. This sport has changed my life, and I always saw myself competing and getting back to it in whatever way I could.”

“So it was just very heartbreaking for a time, but in accepting that I may not be a part of this sport anymore, it was in the end very freeing” Penne concluded. “It allowed me to comeback to myself and really appreciate the sport.”
