Khamzat Chimaev has confirmed that he will be returning to the octagon. After Chimaev was forced to pull out of the March 13 fight against Leon Edwards he announced his retirement from the sport online.
The situation seems to change on an almost weekly basis. Chimaev announced at the start of March that he was going to fight in June. ‘Want to say thank you to Dana White and UFC, [for] giving me medical treatment and taking care of me first class. Thank you and I’m very grateful, see [you] in June.’
After this Khamzat Chimaev announced his retirement. ‘Thank you all so much for supporting me in my journey in this sport” Chimaev wrote. “I think I’m done. It’s not the most important victory in this life.’
Dana White on Khamzat Chimaev
UFC President Dana White refuted the claims at the time. “He’s on prednisone, and he’s supposed to be taking this thing and chilling, relaxing, and letting himself recover. He went in and f*cking trained today, felt like sh*t, and got super emotional and posted that.”
‘He’s not supposed to be training’ White continued. ‘But you know, this guy’s a savage. He wants to fight like every f*cking weekend, and now he can’t even train, so he just got emotional and posted that, but he ain’t quitting.’
‘Surprise surprise I’m coming back to smash everybody’ Khamzat Chimaev wrote on Twitter, announcing his return in the past day.
