UFC Strawweight contender Mackenzie Dern recently spoke to ESPN. Dern defeated Nina Nunes over the weekend at UFC on ABC 2, with an impressive first round armbar to progress further in the Strawweight division.
After the fight, Dern said that she was hoping to go into the Top 5 of the Strawweight division. ‘I would like to go to No. 5 in the rankings,’ Dern said following the win. ‘But I don’t know. Marina (Rodriguez), who beat Amanda Ribas who beat me, I think she’s No. 6. Claudia Gadelha, who Nina beat and I just beat Nina, is No. 7.’
Now, Mackenzie Dern is saying that she is ready for all-comers and that she wants the Strawweight title shot by the end of 2021.

‘I’m ready for the top girls, but maybe fight for the belt, maybe at the end of the year,’ Dern told ESPN (via MMA Fighting). ‘A couple more fights, because the belt you want to be 100 percent, and I’m not 100 percent on what I need to do.”
‘I just need to be 100 percent on the go time, and that’s being able to be calm and to think” Dern continued. “I’m getting there, but a first-round submission, you don’t really get to see those other parts. But I know that even if I submit my next [opponents] in the first round, I want to know that when I fight the champ, I’m ready even if I go the whole five rounds.’
The UFC Strawweight title will next be on the line at UFC 261; Champion Zhang Weili will be defending against Rose Namajunas.
