Since Francis Ngannou beat Stipe Miocic at UFC 260, fans and critics have wondered when the company will officially announce Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou for the Heavyweight gold.
Dana White seemed like he wasn’t interested in the potential mega-fight, making comments aimed at Jon Jones following Francis knocking out Miocic in the second round.
‘If I’m Jon Jones and watching this fight at home, I’m moving to 185!’ Dana White proclaimed at the UFC 260 post fight press conference.
Jon Jones responded to these comments publicly, saying that they were a ‘slap in the face.’ “A huge slap in the face’ Jones stated. ‘And I thought we were on good terms. I’ve been sitting here working hard, excited to come back to the company. Just to get that sh*t.’
Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou
if the match-up is made? It could potentially be the biggest box office draw in the history of UFC. Currently, that statistic sits with Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The opening odds for the potential fight have now been released, with Ngannou sitting as the favourite at -190, whilst Jones is currently a +165 underdog.
‘This is the first time Jon Jones has been an underdog since his first two professional fights,’ Adam Burns of BetOnline.ag recently said. ‘And most of his fights he has been a massive favourite.”
“This fight, if it happens, has the potential to be the highest grossing fight of all-time” Burns continued. “The current highest is McGregor vs Khabib.”
If the fight does go ahead, it’s likely to take place later this year in September/October time.
