UFC Bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley recently called out former division Champion Petr Yan. O’Malley suggested that Petr Yan be his next opponent in the octagon, as Aljamain Sterling will be undergoing surgery shortly and will not be able to compete for around 6 months.
Issuing the challenge via Twitter, Sean O’Malley said ‘hey @PetrYanUFC, what are you doing in July brotha? Wanna beat me up while you wait for your rematch?’
Petr Yan has now responded to O’Malley, seemingly indicating that, at this time, he’s really not interested in competing against the outside ranked fighter.
‘Are you high again Shaun?’ Petr Yan simply wrote on Twitter.
This isn’t the first call out that Sean O’Malley has made recently, with Dominick Cruz also on his hit-list.
Sean O’Malley on The Bantamweight Division and Petr Yan
‘What’s up Dom? I heard you’re looking for a big fight’ Sean O’Malley began on a recently released YouTube video. ‘Who’s a bigger fight than me right now?’ O’Malley then listed the reasons that he deserves a fight against the former Champion next.
‘Corey (Sandhagen) is about to beat the EPO out of TJ (Dillashaw)’ Sean O’Malley continued. ‘Rob (Font) is about to knock out Cody (Garbrandt) for the seventh time this year. Petr (Yan) is, uhh, disqualified for cheating. Aljo’s still knocked out from the knee. Who’s the bigger fight?’
Although he’s shooting even higher to the top ranked Yan, O’Malley looks like he may be a big draw going forward, so the UFC may try and capitalise on the popularity of the 145lb fighter.
