Stipe Miocic will be defending his UFC Heavyweight Championship this Saturday night. The champ of the UFC’s biggest weight class recently spoke to MMA Fighting about the contest against Francis Ngannou, as well as a fights going forward in the division.
With former Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones moving up to Heavyweight, the idea of that contest has crossed Miocic’s mind. The Champion was however quick to state that he is focused solely on UFC 260 and Francis Ngannou right now.
‘Right now all I’m worried about is the fight coming up with Francis” Stipe Miocic stated. “That’s all I care about. I’m not going to worry about Jon Jones until I take care of business.”
‘No question [Jon Jones is a big fight for my legacy], definitely but all I’m worried about is Francis,’ Miocic continued. ‘That’s all I care about. The task at hand right now. He’s the only one.’
Stipe Miocic vs Jon Jones
Jon Jones has been outspoken on social media whilst away from the octagon preparing for a Heavyweight return. ‘Bones’ Jones recently commented on the retirement of Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
In a now deleted Instagram post, Jones wrote ‘nothing wrong with going out on top, enjoy retirement kid. I’m talking to all you Khabib fans out there. 15 world titles to your guy’s four and you are really talking about who is the best fighter ever?’
‘You guys are joking right? 15-4, are you guys kidding me’ Jon Jones continued. ‘The only guy who could possibly come back and challenge my record of what I’ve done in the UFC is possibly Georges St Pierre.’
Jon Jones finished by saying that he has a lot more to give before he hangs up the gloves. ‘He [GSP] would have to come back and win two championship fights to tie me and I’m not even retired yet. I’m 33 years old. I’ve got a whole another chapter to go through. You guys are nuts.’
