Eddie Guerrero is a retired professional wrestler, recognised as one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time.
Guerrero was born into the famed Guerrero wrestling family, being the son of the first-generation wrestler Gory Guerrero.
He would perform mainly for Mexian promotions in his early days in the business, featuring for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and Asistencia Asesoría y Administracion.
In 1992 Guerrero signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling under the Black Tiger gimmick. In 1996 he won the Best of the Super Juniors tournament of junior heavyweights.
By 1995 he was already a known entity in the United States and won the ECW World Television Championship from 2 Cold Scorpio in is debut with the company.
From 1989 until 2000 he made various appearances for WCW, and was signed full-time with the company between 1995 and 2000.
Guerrero returned to WCW in late 1995 along with Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit with whom he had worked with in NJPW and ECW. All three remain would remain great friends until the deaths of Guerrero and Benoit.
In 1996 he feuded with the likes of Ric Flair, Konnan and Diamond Dallas Page over the United States Championship, eventually winning the belt at Starrcade.
After losing the title to Dean Malenko, Guerrero would enter acclaimed feuds with Chris Jericho and then Rey Mysterio over the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.
At Halloween Havoc, he faced Mysterio in a match many consider to be one of the best in the history of the company.
In his final couple of years of the company he would form the Latino World Order to go up against the New World Order, and also The Filthy Animals.
Towards the end of his tenure with WCW Guerrero was one of a number of wrestlers who had became disillusioned with like at the company due to a lack of push.
He would eventually negotiate his release.
In 2000, he debuted in the WWF as a member of heel faction The Radicalz alongside Malenko, Benoit and Perry Saturn.
Guerrero actually dislocated his elbow in his first match in the WWF, resulting in him having to wear a sling for several weeks. After the Radicalz kayfabe lost their first matches, they aligned themselves with Triple H and D-Generation X to feud against the likes of The Rock, Mankind, Kane and 2 Cool.
After Wrestlemania 2000, Guerrero would begin pursuing Chyna romantically, with the pair eventually getting together after Chyna helped him win the European Championship from Jericho.
He would subsequently feud with the likes of Val Venis and Rikishi over the title.
Guerrero and Chyna would break up after he was caught with the Godfather’s Hos.
He faced Test at Wrestlemania 17, and after a real-life drink driving arrest, was released by the company for a period.
Guerrero returned in 2002 to feud with Rob Van Dam to win his second Intercontinental Championship.
As part of the Smackdown brand, Guerrero would go on to form a tag team with his nephew Chavo named ‘Los Guerreros’.
At the 2002 edition of Survivor Series, they won the Tag Team Championships in a triple threat match against Kurt Angle and Benoit plus Edge and Mysterio.
Though the pair used heel tactics to win matches, their ‘Lie, Cheat, and Steal’ philosophy became a hit with the fans, which led to them turning babyface, though still using the aforementioned tactics.
When Chavo got injured, Guerrero teamed with Tajiri, though he would later turn on him to become heel again.
At Vengeance in 2003, he defeated Benoit for the United States Championship, and would turn babyface again to face heel John Cena, eventually defeating him in a Parking Lot Brawl.
Chavo would then turn on Guerrero as the pair feuded into the Royal Rumble.
After winning a battle royal on Smackdown to win the number one contender for the WWE Championship, Guerrero went on to face Brock Lesnar at No Way Out, winning the title after interference from Goldberg.
At Wrestlemania 20, he retained the championship in a match against Kurt Angle, but would eventually lose the title at the Great American Bash against JBL.
Guerrero’s last meaningful feud was also one of his most famous, as he eventually took on Mysterio for kayfabe custody of his son Dominik in a Ladder Match at Summerslam.
After that feud he was named number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship and began to show more babyface qualities, refusing to use a steel chair on Batista which ultimately cost him the title match against the Animal at No Mercy.
On 13 November 2005, Guerrero was found unconscious by nephew Chavo in his hotel room.
It was later revealed that he had died due to heart failure.
In 2006 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
