AEW presented the Forbidden Door PPV in partnership with NJPW on Sunday. Only a day after this, WWE also opened the Forbidden Door and called in a few big AEW names for cameo appearances on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.

As noted, before, WWE celebrated the 20th anniversary of John Cena’s WWE debut this week. The celebration included congratulatory videos from a number of wrestling veterans such as Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Stephanie McMahon, and many more.

Fans were left surprised when a number of AEW stars also joined this list. People like Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Paul Wight all made cameo appearances on the show to congratulate the 16-time world champion. Both Bryan and Wight were introduced by their WWE names in Daniel Bryan and the Big Show.

Fightful Select later provided some backstage news on these surprise appearances. Per their report, WWE contacted Tony Khan to seek his permission. They obviously received the green light from the AEW president. A source said that the company was able to land virtually everyone they had hoped to get.

This is not the first time an AEW contracted talent has appeared on WWE TV. Chris Jericho previously appeared on Broken Skull Sessions in 2021.
