WWE planned on building Olympic Gold Medallist Gable Steveson as the next Brock Lesnar but things don’t seem to be going according to plan. It was recently noted that ‘everything is cold’ in regards to the WWE status of the amateur wrestling star. Latest updates only indicate further that Steveson is not ready to step inside the squared circle just yet.

Dave Meltzer provided the latest update on the matter during Sunday Night’s Main Event (H/t wrestlingnews.co). He noted that the officials wanted to fast track Steveson to the main event status:

‘He was supposed to be fast-tracked to main events by now. Like come right out of college and win the NCAAs, which he did. And then go right to WWE top level and that didn’t happen.”

Meltzer revealed that Gable Steveson has been training with Ken Anderson. The original idea was for WWE to send coaches to Minnesota and train Steveson as a pro wrestler during the wrestling season. He was supposed to make occasional RAW appearances, but none of it ended up happening:

‘This is what I was told originally when they first announced the deal. It was [that] he was gonna be the new Brock Lesnar. He would do scattered RAW’s over the course of the year. Remember they drafted him for RAW and he would make appearances and they would build it up and things like that. And then he ended up not making any appearances.”
