CM Punk is ‘the biggest financial flop’ in wrestling history: Eric Bischoff

Eric Bischoff believes that CM Punk is the biggest financial flop in the history of wrestling.

The two wrestling personalities have been feuding on Twitter recently. It all started when Eric Bischoff said that AEW needs to stop appealing to only a small segment of the audience. CM Punk responded to it saying that wrestling fans should stop amplifying all the old heads with bad takes.

Bischoff then fired back by quoting CM Punk where he compared his AEW debut to the WCW debut of The Outsiders. The veteran promoter expanded on it during 83 weeks (H/t Wrestlinginc), and said that Punk has been a financial flop:

“I took his quote and posted it and said how’s that working out? Which it isn’t, obviously. In terms of a return on investment, this guy has to be the biggest financial flop in the history of wrestling.’

Eric Bischoff discussed how we don’t know the merchandise sale numbers. What we do know are the TV numbers. He compared the TV ratings from when Punk debut to the current time and fired shots at the Straight Edge star:

“They’re hovering around that 900,000. Which they’ve been doing for, I don’t know, a year, year and a half. When Punk comes out and says he’s a bigger deal than Scott Hall and Kevin Nash coming to WCW, that created a paradigm shift with people watching wrestling, where Punk has created absolutely nothing.’
