Former Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel has returned to WWE in a new role. He is now working as a producer for the company.

The former Nexus member made an unexpected return to WWE programming during this past Monday’s episode of Raw. Axel showed up alongside other officials to break a fight between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. A lot of fans tweeted about his appearance on the show.

Dave Meltzer provided the latest updates on Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He revealed that the third-generation star has officially re-signed with the company as a producer.

Curtis Axel was released from his WWE contract back in April 2020. He had been away from the wrestling world since then and didn’t try to make an in-ring return outside of the company.

It was reported back in April this year that both the former NXT star and Ariya Daivari had tryouts for a producer role with the promotion. Now the report has confirmed that at least Axel passed the tests he was put through. He is now back in the WWE fold in his new role.

While not confirmed officially, this development also seemingly signals the end of his in-ring career. Axel is a one-time IC and two times tag team champion.
