Gunther has been a dominant WWE Intercontinental Champion. It seems that ‘The Ring General’ could defend the title against Drew McIntyre.

Drew McIntyre issues challenge to Gunther

On the latest edition of Friday Night SmackDown, McIntyre made his WrestleMania intentions clear, when he came to ringside to watch the Ring General during Imperium’s six-man tag team match against Ricochet, Braun Strowman and Madcap Moss.

After the match, McIntyre was jumped by the Viking Raiders before Sheamus came to his aid. After the show on the SmackDown LowDown, McIntyre officially made his intentions clear, challenging Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania.

It is to be noted that Sheamus and McIntyre were both eliminated by Gunther in the Royal Rumble match on his path to finishing second, breaking the all-time record for time spent in a traditional Royal Rumble. Sheamus could also get in the mix for the title match at WrestleMania 39.

Gunther recently became the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 21st century. A contender to Gunther’s title will be determined in a Battle Royal during the upcoming WWE live event in Madison Square Garden.
