While things have worked out for him, getting released from WWE felt like a gut punch to Swerve Strickland at first.

The AEW star spoke to Whatculture wrestling (H/t Wrestlinginc) about his departure from WWE. He recalled Briana Brandy getting released before Hit Row’s main roster call up. It made him feel like WWE should just let go the rest of the faction members too:

‘It was like a gut punch at first, the first couple weeks were, honestly, after Briana was let go from the group, it kind of was like, wow, you might as well let it all go. Seeing the direction, the companies going in right now, it just doesn’t fit Hit Row and we don’t fit the company.”

Speaking about his WWE release, he said that it was a paradigm shift where they started focusing more on the younger talents: ‘It was the paradigm shift of where the company was going. Now they want young talent, 20-25 years old, we don’t fit that.’

Strickland also discussed how Hit Row had become real life friends. They used to hang out together and have fun. After getting released from his WWE contract in November, Swerve Strickland has joined the AEW roster. He signed with the company in March this year.
