Jake Hager claims that WWE stars were blacklisted for talking about a union in the company.
The former world champion talked about his time with the company while appearing on Story Time with Dutch Mantell (H/t Fightful). Speaking about the two things that are considered taboo in the promotion, Hager mentioned talent contracts and talks about a potential wrestlers union:
“While I was there (in WWE), that was like the four-letter word. Don’t talk about your contracts, and don’t talk about anything having to do with a union, otherwise, you’ll get blacklisted.”
Jake Hager questions WWE contracts
Jake Hager also mentioned how WWE can release anyone from a contract at any time. He asked what’s the point of signing away your life to the company:
“The biggest things with those WWE contracts are, they can cancel them anytime, and they’ve proven that they will, so what does it all really mean if you can’t rely on it? You sign your life away.”
Dutch Mantel mentioned how the guaranteed pay used to be really low in the 90s and the company could block you from taking other dates after that. Hager said that the rise of AEW can change things and hoped that we will see contracts with more options in the future.
