Mercedes Mone is looking to take the IWGP women’s championship from KAIRI and once she does that, she plans to travel the world with the title.

NJPW recently released a new interview (H/t Cagesideseats) with the former Sasha Banks of WWE where she explained her motivations behind coming to Japan. She first claimed that it was the Japanese women’s wrestling that inspired her to become a professional wrestler in the first place. So when the IWGP Women’s Championship was unveiled, Mone knew she had to make the move:

‘I’m all about history. If it’s not about history, it doesn’t make any sense. When I found out about that IWGP Women’s championship, my heart was filled with so much joy. And I knew instantly what I wanted ’” and that was that title.’

In her debut match for the promotion, Mercedes Mone will be challenging KAIRI for the IWGP title at the Battle in the Valley show in San Jose, California on February 18. Speaking about her plans for the belt, the former women’s champion said that she wants to take it everywhere:

‘I’m about to send KAIRI back to Japan and she can go back to Stardom. I’m about to take that title everywhere. Not just New Japan, everywhere.’
