The team of Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston made history by winning the NXT tag team championships at Deadline last year.
Woods, however, has only competed in a couple of tag team matches since winning the titles and he has not wrestled this year at all.
Mike Johnson of PWinsider provided backstage updates on his status recently. He revealed that Xavier Woods is not 100% cleared to compete at the moment.
This is why the officials have been keeping him away from active competition. This is a temporary arrangement and the NXT champion is likely to return to the ring before Royal Rumble later this month.

‘PWInsider.com is told Xavier Woods is banged up and not yet 100% cleared, which is why New Day hasn’t been seen more inside the ring. The expectation internally is that he should be good to go by Royal Rumble, if not sooner.’
While Woods has not been wrestling, he has continued traveling with the WWE crew. Woods has been accompanying his partner Kofi Kingston as he competes in singles matches at Live Events. Woods was also at Kingston’s corner for a one-on-one match against Santos Escobar during this past Friday’s SmackDown.
