An injury in WWE has caused a massive change to creative, specifically on the SmackDown side of the current roster split.
According to a new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rey Mysterio was set to be part of the WWE World Cup.
“Rey Mysterio was scheduled for the World Cup but he had either a foot or an ankle injury and was replaced by Mustafa Ali” the tenured writer confirmed.
Rey Mysterio injured in WWE
It is not currently confirmed exactly how long Rey Mysterio will actually be out of action, nor how serious the foot or ankle injury actually is.
Mysterio recently switched over to the SmackDown brand as part of the storyline with Judgment Day and his son Dominik Mysterio.
The former WCW Cruiserweight Champion lost to Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER recently, so it’s not known if he would’ve gone all of the way in the World Cup to get another shot at the IC title holder.
Hopefully, the master of the 619 will be able to make his return to the ring sooner rather than later.
