Vince McMahon’s tenure as the head of WWE came to an abrupt end on Friday. WWE’s announcement of Mr. McMahon’s retirement from his position shocked the whole wrestling world. A wave of excitement also swept fans when it was revealed that Triple H will be taking over the creative control of the company.

Many people were looking forward to Raw from Madison Square Garden this week to see what creative changes the new regime brings, but they were met with some disappointment. Dave Meltzer later reported on Wrestling Observer Radio (H/t Ringsidenews) that the show had largely been written before McMahon’s departure:

‘This is probably not the show to judge anything by, because this show was largely written before Vince left. It was written a lot on Thursday. Nobody ripped up anything. There are a few minor changes is what I was told. But, essentially, this was the show that had been approved. So, they’re not making any big changes or anything like that just yet and of course, they’re going to SummerSlam with the ideas in mind.’

The card for SummerSlam is almost set. With Friday’s SmackDown being the go-home episode for the PPV event, any major changes to the presentation for the show are not expected. The new creative direction of the promotion should become clearer after the big event this Saturday.
