WWE Hall of Famer and 80s icon Hacksaw Jim Duggan recently spoke to Betway on his achievements in the company, including his massive Royal Rumble win back in 1988.
There has been a lot of back and forth over the past year with regards to veterans talking about today’s performers and their habits after the end of shows.
Whilst names such as The Undertaker have been critical of modern-day WWE Superstars “playing videogames and being soft,” Hacksaw Jim Duggan has praised younger talent for being more “professional.”
‘The whole business has changed,” Hacksaw said to Betway Online Casino. ‘Back then, you didn’t have 200 channels to choose from, you almost had to watch wrestling. It was wrestling, a game show or the news.
‘I think the kids are much more professional nowadays. Nobody’s sleeping on the floor back there and nobody’s out partying all night” the first-ever Royal Rumble winner continued.
‘When I was with the WWE in Australia after my comeback, I was down in the hotel bar, there were young women down there and the booze was free” Hacksaw added, painting the picture of what the business has become following the days of the Golden Generation and Attitude Era of the late 90s.
‘I was sitting around and none of the boys were down there. I heard a bunch of noise on our floor, open the door and they’re all in there playing a video game. ‘What the hell? Different times” Hacksaw concluded.
It’s pretty refreshing to see a veteran of the Rock n Wrestling era of WWE/WWF going out of their way to praise how the modern-day performers have adapted to life on the road.
WWE Hall of Famer on Modern Day WWE Performers
Hacksaw also revealed during the interview what the most difficult element of his original Royal Rumble win was.
He stated: “Just staying in the ring. There were a couple of times, I was bouncing on the top rope and it could have gone either way.
‘But I always think it’s like when you’re competing in any sport; you think, ’˜I can pull this out, I’m down 20 points and I can still win it'” Hacksaw added.
‘I never gave up hope and it’s the biggest feather in Hacksaw’s cap” the iconic performer concluded.
