Sami Zayn is able to compete at Night of Champions due to the recent improvements in the diplomatic relationship between Syria and Saudi Arabia.

WWE will be presenting the 9th broadcasted live event from Saudi Arabia in Night of Champions later this month. The show will feature the company’s top stars including Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar and more.

Though one name that fans did not expect to see at the show was Sami Zayn. The Raw star had been barred from attending shows in Saudi Arabia due to his Syrian heritage in the past. So fans were left surprised when WWE announced that Sami and his partner Kevin Owens will be defending their tag titles at the event.

Sami Zayn in Saudi Arabia

It was reported by CNN recently that both Saudi Arabia and Syria had agreed to end the pause on diplomatic relationship after a decade. Dave Meltzer discussed this on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that this is why both Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have decided to make the tour:

‘Kevin and Sami are wrestling Roman and Solo Sikoa and that’s going to be one of the two main events for the Saudi show on the 27th.

And what basically happened there was, I guess, Saudi Arabia has opened up to where Syrians can come in, so, Sami can come in and decided that he would go and when Sami decided he would go, Kevin decided that if Sami is going to go he’ll go too.’

Zayn and Owens will be defending the Undisputed tag titles against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa. The other main event of the show will see Cody Rhodes taking on Brock Lesnar in a Backlash rematch.
