John Cena is no stranger to fan criticism.

The former WWE champion is used to being targeted by fans. During his run as the face of WWE, the Cenation Leader was the most polarizing figure in the wrestling world. This trait seems to have followed him in his next career as well.

Cena is currently on a media tour promoting the latest instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise. One major criticism of the series is that it has no direction and every next movie is just a rehash of the old one.

The former champion addressed this criticism during a recent interview with Digital Spy. He compared it to the world of wrestling, saying it’s the same as people asking if wrestling is fake:

“Anyone who says, ‘Do we really need another one?’ I compare it to a fan who says, ‘Isn’t wrestling fake?’ They just don’t understand what we do and they just don’t understand what this is about. As long as the movies are exceptional, which this one might be my favourite of all-time, and I go deep into the Fast library,”

Cena continued by saying people will want to see more of these films after watching Fast X. According to him, the people who complain don’t understand what they are trying to do:

“This is a great ride and I think people are going to get out of the theatre and want to see another one. If someone makes that comment, which they’re entitled to, I just don’t think they understand what we do.”

Fast X hits the theatre this Friday, May 19.
