Rey Mysterio was absent from Men’s Royal Rumble match last night and fans had been wondering the reason. It seems that the veteran star has suffered an injury that kept him off the match.
Rey Mysterio reportedly sustained an injury
One instance of the match saw his son and The Judgement Day member Dominik Mysterio come out to the ring while wearing Rey Mysterio’s mask. Many fans believed he and his father were going to face each other during the match, but Rey Mysterio wasn’t present for the show. While Dominik made his way to the ring, he tried to tear up his father’s mask.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that Rey Mysterio suffered an injury prior to the Royal Rumble, which was serious enough for him to miss the event. It was added that WWE had plans to build his and Dominik Mysterio’s feud during the Royal Rumble, but that did not end up happening:
“Rey Mysterio was injured last night during the Loredo Smackdown tapings against Karrion Kross, he was going to be in the Rumble, but that spot was changed. What happened was they did a spot where he’s supposed to come out, but didn’t come out, and then Dominik comes out. I think they were supposed to do some teases with them at in the Rumble to set up their WrestleMania match.
Obviously they couldn’t do that because Rey was injured. And Dominik, I guess, came out with Rey’s mask, with the idea that somehow Judgment Day beat up Rey backstage and Dominik had the mask and that’s the way they’re going to do the angle. Hopefully Rey’s injury isn’t serious, but I guess it was serious enough that he couldn’t do what was planned in the match.”
We will have to see when Rey Mysterio gets back in the ring.
