Former WWE Superstar Aleister Black was recently released as part of the ongoing ‘budget cuts’ across the company. The former PROGRESS and wXw star had only just made his on-screen return to SmackDown, so this was a major shock for fans and critics alike.
Although Aleister Black was removed from the main roster, there have been rumors surrounding a return to the company for the former NXT Champion.
Interestingly, the rumors surround Black heading BACK to NXT, with the recent NXT return of Samoa Joe as a precedent for WWE offering contracts to even recently released names.
Will Aleister Black return to WWE?
Black has been appearing on podcasts and doing Twitch streams since his release, something that Samoa Joe did not do, so it’s not clear if he truly is on the verge of re-signing and making a return to NXT.
Aleister Black had reportedly requested to move back to NXT in the past year, citing creative frustration on the WWE’s main roster. Releasing Black and then offering him a reduced deal to return to NXT isn’t out of the realms of possibility, and may be what has occurred here.
Again this is a rumor, and we do not currently have any official word on whether WWE has in-fact made a play to get Black to return on a reduced deal for NXT. As a former NXT Champion it’s clear that the likes of Triple H et al are fans of Black’s work, so again it’s a rumor but not a wildly out there one.
