CM Punk referenced on WWE TV amid AEW controversy

Last updated

CM Punk was referenced on WWE TV this week.

The former WWE champion has practically been erased from the history books by the company after walking out in 2014. He did make appearances on WWE Backstage but that was under the production of Fox Network.

His stint at AEW has only added to WWE’s motivation to avoid any mention of the former WWE champion. This changed last night however as one of the NXT stars referenced the wrestling veteran and his wife AJ Lee during the latest episode of the show.

WWE references CM Punk pipebomb

Last week’s episode of NXT saw Cora Jade attacking NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell following a successful title defense against Joey Starks.

Jade addressed her actions on this week’s show in a promo. She started with ‘Do I have everybody’s attention now?’ This was notably a homage to the infamous pipebombs of the former WWE star:

CM Punk recently made news after he responded to claims about his rivalry with Jon Moxley at AEW. The former AEW champion explained that the whole feud was Mox’s idea and he called both Chris Jericho and Dave Meltzer liars.

Reports have since revealed that Tony Khan had positive talks with the wrestling star about a potential AEW comeback but the latest controversy has cast doubt over his return again.
