Cody Rhodes returned to WWE last year with a big aspiration.
He had worked hard to reinvent himself, and he was ready to give everything he had to finally achieve his dream of winning a world title in WWE.
His journey, however, was halted by the unexpected injury that kept him away from the ring since last June.
The former AEW star spoke up about this moment during an interview with BT Sport (H/t fightful). Rhodes claimed that he was embarrassed on getting injured:
“I was embarrassed, I really was. I was on top of my game. All the measurables of, ‘this is working, we’re selling this, people are tuning in.’ I’m doing it. Then I got hurt bench pressing at my gym.”

Cody Rhodes revealed that he actually felt a moment of doubt during his recovery. He wondered if he did not have what it takes to reach the top of the mountain:
“I was embarrassed. That was one time where I thought, ‘I’m worried now. Maybe I don’t have it.’ Everyone has doubts, even the most confident people. Maybe I didn’t have it.”
The American Nightmare later revealed that the two people who helped him during this time were Nick Khan and Bruce Prichard. According to him, they have been nothing but angles to him.
