Gigi Dolin had to abandon the original idea for her name due to its resemblance to a serial killer.
The NXT star was known as Priscilla Kelly in the independent circuit. She made her WWE debut under the same name competing in the 2018 Mae Young Classic.
When WWE finally signed her to a contract in 2021 however, the 26-year-old had to come up with a new name. However, the first name she came up with had to be rejected for an interesting reason.
Gigi Dolin: The plan for her original name
During a recent interview on Drinks With Johnny (H/t Web Is Jericho) Gigi Dolin revealed that she originally wanted to be called Gigi Aileen. The name was rejected because of its resemblance to serial killer Aileen Wuornos:
“I’m trying to remember what other first names I came up with,” Dolin said. “I know that I wanted the name Gigi Aileen, [that] was one that I liked, but that one didn’t pass because of Aileen Wuornos. They were like, ‘No, we’re not doing that. That’s a serial killer. You can’t do that.’”
NXT star Joe Gacy also made his debut around the same time. Speculating on why he was allowed to keep the name despite the similarities to serial killer John Wayne Gacy, Dolin said that it may have been too much to allow multiple such names at the same time:
“We have Joe Gacy which is in the same ballpark but, I don’t know, I get it. They’re probably like, ‘We already have Joe Gacy coming in around the same time as me,’ and it was like, if I came in with another serial killer name, it was probably just gonna be a little overkill, maybe.”
