WWE has apparently denied the release of two talents who requested it back in early April 2023, and now the Superstars have issued statements.
James Drake and Zack Gibson of the Grizzled Young Veterans both claimed that they requested their release from the company and were denied.
Drake issued the following on Twitter: “As of today, WWE has denied my request for my release. I want to thank you all for your support throughout my career, I’ll never take that for granted. My contract with WWE expires on 14th October 2023. I’m excited to share our next chapter, once we are free agents.”
James Drake and Zack Gibson Requested WWE Release
Gibson issued the following on Twitter: “Today WWE have denied our release, which was requested on April 3rd. On 15th Oct ’23 we will be free agents again. I personally want to thank all of our fans for your continued support, it means a lot to both of us especially during times like these! We’ll see you on the 16th!”
This is a slightly bizarre situation, as you’ve got two talents who aren’t likely to make a major buzz on another national platform like AEW but can certainly do well back on the indies…so why keep paying them?
Hopefully the duo will be able to land on their feet as of October, as both were mainstays in the UK independent scene and can walk straight back in at the main event level.
