WWE Superstar John Cena is currently doing the media rounds promoting the new Fast & Furious 9 film. Cena recently revealed that he IS going to be returning to WWE at some point, and several WWE Superstars have said they want the match against the legend, including Drew McIntyre.
Speaking to On Demand Entertainment, Cena would react to McIntyre wanting a match against the 16-time World Champion, saying that it isn’t up to the talent to decide who gets these mega bouts.
“Well, I always appreciate being involved in a conversation of saying things are important because that means people haven’t forgotten what you’ve put forth as an effort” John Cena began.

“But, what a way to set yourself up for disappointment” Cena added, taking somewhat of a sly dig at McIntyre. “In no way, shape, or form is Drew in a position to make matches or make things happen and I’m not either.”
“I got more matches left in the WWE. I’m not done. But I’ve never approached anything like, ‘I’d like to work with this person or ‘I want to have a match with this person,’ because I don’t make those choices” John Cena added.
“They [WWE] say, ‘Hey, we’d like you to do this.’ Alright, it’s time to go to work and that’s really allowed me to enjoy every step of the way” Cena continued.
“I think if we build up expectations in our head, like I hate to say this to Drew, but if that never happens, how is he supposed to feel about that?” John Cena concluded.
Cena is currently slated for a return to WWE at the SummerSlam 2021 PPV event to take on Roman Reigns. WWE are hoping to make that August event this year’s WrestleMania, and a Cena vs Reigns main event would certainly be a marquee bout.
Beyond that there is no news on how WWE plans on using Cena going forward, so a match against Drew McIntyre may well be a possibility, but at this point it is unknown.
